West Byfleet Library will be relocating to a new, modern space within Botanical Place, 8 Station Approach, West Byfleet. The new library space is being designed to be accessible, inclusive and adaptable to changing community needs.
The new library will feature improved study areas with a mix of individual desks, collaborative spaces and public PCs, alongside accessible furniture such as height-adjustable desks and privacy screens. A children’s area will offer an engaging environment with age-appropriate zones, reading nooks and space for activities and events. A coffee and refreshments point will provide a place to relax.
A meeting room for up to eight people will be available to hire, equipped with a digital screen, Wi-Fi, charging points and access to a small kitchenette, making it suitable for meetings, workshops and group sessions. Additional facilities include a public toilet with baby changing.
The design focuses on flexibility, with movable shelving allowing the space to be easily reconfigured for events and larger community gatherings. Clear sightlines on entry will make the library easy to navigate and welcoming for all visitors.
Building works will include a full internal fit-out of the new unit, with new heating and cooling systems, upgraded power and data for free Wi-Fi and digital access, and the creation of meeting rooms, a staff area and public facilities. The space will be finished with new flooring, decoration and modern shelving and furniture.
Overall, the new library will provide a modern, adaptable and inclusive space that supports learning, creativity and a space in the community to meet others.
What's happening and when
Between 11 March 2026 and 11 April 2026 information about the relocation and proposed designs was displayed in the library and residents were asked to provide feedback on the designs. We are reviewing feedback received and there will be a second opportunity for you to share your views on the refreshed designs in early autumn.
