Surrey Libraries Policy statement on Bank Holiday closures.

Emergency closures

A Library Manager, or the senior member of staff on duty, has discretion to close service points within the library, or the library itself, when staffing levels are deemed to be too low, or when conditions make it difficult, to open the library, with due regard to health and safety considerations.

Please check your local library page for closures.

Closures due to bad weather

At times we may have libraries affected by bad weather.

Temporary closures

Redhill Library closure

Unfortunately, we have had to temporarily close Redhill Library (from Thursday 7 December), as a more detailed structural survey identified further RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete - a form of lightweight concrete) in the building. The closure of the library will allow more detailed assessments and immediate safety measures to take place to ensure the building is safe to reopen to residents.

Further urgent work will need to be undertaken before we can provide any details on how the problem will be resolved or timelines for re-opening. Please check back for updates.

Return dates for all items on loan have been automatically extended to Monday 8 January 2024. Therefore, no late fees or charges will be incurred on your account during this time.

Your nearest alternative libraries are Reigate and Merstham. Please note that local NHS libraries, for example, East Surrey Hospital library, are not open to the public.
