Introduction to Pyrography

  • Wednesday 5 July, from 2.15pm to 4.45pm, including a break for refreshments.

Would you like to try a new craft? Pyrography is the art of burning a design into wood.

Due to popular demand, we are running another Introduction to Pyrography adult craft workshop. All materials are provided.

Please note that this workshop is not suitable for anyone aged under the age of 12.

Tickets cost £7.50. Includes refreshments and all materials.

Summer Reading Challenge events

The Summer Reading Challenge will be launching Saturday 8 July and finishing on Saturday 23 September, this year's Challenge is a fantastic celebration of imagination, reading, and being active. The theme for 2023 is "Ready, Set, Read!"

Godalming Library have created the programme of events below in support of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Summer Reading Challenge design competition

The competition is open throughout the summer holidays from Saturday 8 July until Saturday 23 September.

Godalming Library are asking you to put your design skills to the test. Can you create an obstacle course for our Summer Reading Challenge characters?

Pick up an entry form in the library to take part. We will display some of the best designs and the winner will receive a special sport design art folder.

Godalming library activity trail

Available from Saturday 8 July to Saturday 23 September.

Pick up an answer sheet from the library and let it lead you on a tour of the town of Godalming:

  • How much do you know about this historic town?
  • Can you solve all of the clues?

Hand in your completed answer sheets at the library to be entered into our prize draw for a chance to win to win a sports design bag!

Can you help us decorate the library? There are 8 different designs for you to choose from. Colour them in and either take them home or leave them to be displayed in the library.

Can you find all of the Summer Reading Challenge Characters hidden in the library? There are 8 for you to find. If you can find them all, hand your answers in at the desk to receive a sticker and be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a sports themed bag!

Come and make your very own mini golf game. Can you score a whole in one?

Storytime with local author Liz Freeston

  • Wednesday 2 August, from 11am to 11.30am

Liz will be reading her book Eddy the Ostrich and we will be making Ostrich masks.

Event suitable for ages 2+. Free to attend but donations are welcomed. No booking is required but spaces are limited

Make a sports mobile craft event

  • Thursday 3 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm

What are your favourite sports? Why not turn them into a mobile in our craft event.

Event suitable for For ages 5+. Tickets cost £1.50 per child and must be booked in advance from the library as spaces are limited.

Make an air hockey game

  • Monday 14 August, from 10.30am to 11.30am

Design your own game and then challenge your friends.

Event suitable for ages 6+. Tickets cost £2 per child and must be booked in advance from the library as spaces are limited.

Make a table football game

  • Tuesday 22 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Who is your favourite football team? Make a mini football game and see if you can score the winning goal.

Godalming Staycation events

The Godalming library sport arena

  • Monday 7 August, from 10am to 4pm

Help us create "The Godalming Library Sport Arena". What is your favourite sport?

Come down to Godalming Library where you and your family are invited to help us recreate a large paper model inspired by your favourite sports.

What will you choose to include? We will have templates available, or you can choose to make your own designs from your imagination. It will be available to add to throughout the day.

Free to attend but donations are welcomed.

Introduction to English paper piecing patchwork adult craft workshop

  • Tuesday 8 August, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm

Would you like to learn a new skill? Are you looking for a craft that you can carry around with you? Then English Paper Piecing Patchwork may be just for you!

In this introduction workshop we will be showing you how to get started with a hexagonal design. This technique is a great way to use up scrap fabric and no specialised knowledge is required. You will be going away with some basic know how and the ability to carry on your design at home.

Event suitable for ages 12+. Tickets cost £3 and must be booked in advance as spaces are limited.

Family Staycation storytime at Godalming library

  • Wednesday 9 August, from 11am to 11.30am

Come and listen to some sport themed stories, a few songs, and a special sport-based craft.

Event suitable for ages 2+. No booking is required but spaces are limited. Free to attend but donations are welcomed.

Design a board game craft event

  • Wednesday 9 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Design a board game craft event. Would you like to try your hand at designing your very own board game? Then why not come along to Godalming Library where we will be making a simple board game design and at the end you can test your creation.

  • Friday 11 August, from 10am to 4pm

Make a Medal Drop in Crafts. What is your favourite sport? Come and take part in our drop-in craft activity to make and decorate a sports medal. Suggested donation 50p.

Local charity What Next? will be in Godalming Library offering eco - advice, information and support. Come and chat to one of their volunteers, share your thoughts and concerns.

Poetry in the library

Godalming Library invites you to join our friendly and informal Poetry Group.

  • Thursday afternoons. Upcoming dates:
    • Thursday 15 June at 2,30pm. Join us for an entertaining afternoon with the Godalming Theatre Group who will be reading lyrics from the musicals.
    • Thursday 13 July at 2pm (please note the change in time). Bring your favourite poems with a summer theme

No specialist knowledge is required, just an interest in sharing our enjoyment of poetry. We will be reading some poetry and talking about the poems and poets we love.

Hearing Aid Clinic

The Hearing Aid Clinic is returning to Godalming Library. The clinic will allow for routine maintenance of your hearing aid. No booking is required.

Knit and stitch craft group
