Special events

Wildlife Wednesdays with What Next?

From 3pm to 4pm, Wednesdays, on the following dates:

  • 23 July
  • 27 August

Join What Next for a walk on the Godalming Lammas Lands to explore the many insects, mammals and amphibians and plants that can be found there.

For adults and children aged 8 years old and over. Donations welcomed.

Please email godalming.library@surreycc.gov.uk to book a space or visit us in branch as spaces are limited.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place from Saturday 5 July to Saturday 13 September. There will be a variety of events and activities ongoing over the Summer for you to take part in at Godalming Library:

Character hunt

Pick up an answer sheet and see if you can find the characters hidden in the library. All correct answers will receive a sticker and be entered into a prize draw. Available until Saturday 13 September.

Story garden bunting

Help us decorate the library by colouring in one of our bunting panels. There are 6 different designs for you to choose from!

Tree house design challenge

Put your design skills to the test and design your perfect treehouse. What would it look like? Who would it be for? Pick up an entry form from Godalming Library. Closing date Saturday 13 September

Drop in crafts

There will be drop in crafts on Monday and Friday at 11am with the following themes:

  • Friday 1 August - Cress Heads
  • Friday 8 August - Sunflower Fan
  • Monday 11 August - Bugs on a Stick

For ages 3+, donations welcomed.

Game design workshop

Thursday 31 July, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Join us a games concept workshop to help you think about the story for your perfect game and generate ideas. For ages 8 to 12.

Drawing workshops

Interested in developing your artistic skills? Join local author and illustrator Susie Darnton for a beginner friendly drawing workshop on the following dates

  • Tuesday 12 August, from 10am to 11am. Learn to draw flowers and plants from life.
  • Saturday 23 August, from 10am to 11am. Learn to draw animals and birds from photographs.

All materials will be provided.

Suitable for adults and children aged 8+.  £1 donation.

Shakespeare family drama workshop

Thursday 21 August, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm

Drop in and take part in our fun family drama workshop based around some well known Shakespeare plays. For ages 8+.

Donations welcomed.

Fantasy toadstool craft

Saturday 30 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Come and make your very own fantasy toadstool fairy house!

For ages 4+. Tickets cost £1.

Godalming Library Staycation

Join Godalming Library for a special themed week of Gardening and Nature Activities!

The Godalming Library Staycation 2025 for Godalming residents will take place from Saturday 2 August to Sunday 0 August.

Staycation events and activities are suitable for individuals, families and groups of all ages to enjoy, who live in Godalming and its villages.

Junk modelling

Join us for a special staycation Junk Modelling session. Free for everyone to attend but donations are welcomed.

For ages 4+.

From 2.30pm on:

  • Saturday 2 August:  we will be making fantasy animals.
  • Saturday 9 August: we will be making fantasy plants and flowers.

Godalming library model garden

Monday 4 August, from 10am to 4pm.

Help us create “The Godalming Library Model Garden”.

Come down to Godalming Library where you and your family are invited to help us recreate a large paper model fantasy garden. What will you choose to include? We will have templates available with a variety of different flowers and other garden features, or you can choose to draw something yourself. You could even design something from your imagination. It will be available to add to throughout the day.

Free for everyone to attend but donations are welcomed.

Create a garden Diorama craft

Tuesday 5 August, from  230pm to 3.30pm.

Turn a box into a beautiful paper garden filled with colourful flowers, trees and little creatures.

Suitable for ages 5+. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Teddy bear storytime and picnic

Wednesday 6 August, from 11am to 12 noon.

Join us for a special teddy bear themed storytime outside in the library garden (weather permitting) and don’t forget to bring your favourite teddy bear!

We will have some special teddy bear themed activities after the storytime.

No booking is required but spaces are limited.

Plant painting workshop

Wednesday 6 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Learn how to use different plants and everyday foods from your kitchen to make paints in this fun workshop. What colours do you think you can make? Do you think they will work in the same way as normal paints? Why not come and find out.

Suitable for ages 5+. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Family friendly drop in notebook making workshop

Thursday 7 August, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Would you like to make a special notebook for yourself or as a special gift? Join us at Godalming Library where we will be handmaking notebooks and upcycling old library books, magazines and other items to decorate the covers.

Suitable for adults and children aged 6+.  Cost: £1 per person

Adult creative writing workshop

Friday 8 August, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Develop your creative skills this summer at the Godalming Library Creative Writing Workshop! We will be holding some beginner friendly writing challenges perfect for anyone looking to learn how to write short prose and flash fiction.

All skill levels will be welcome. Free to attend but donations welcomed.

Reading groups

Godalming library reading group

First Thursday of the month, from 2pm until 3pm.

Chatterbooks reading group

Fourth Thursday of every month from 4pm until 5pm.

The Chatterbooks reading group is suitable for ages 8 to 10 years.

First Friday of the month from 2pm until 3pm.

Other events

Hearing Aid clinic

The Hearing Aid Clinic is provided by National Health Service (NHS) trained volunteers. Free hearing aid maintenance, battery changes and advice. NHS supplied hearing aids only. No booking is required.

Third Monday of the month from 10.30am until 12.30pm, on the following dates:

Knit and stitch

Join us at Godalming Library on alternate Monday afternoons from 2pm.

Bring your own craft project to work on and meet new people. Open to everyone and all crafts are welcome!

Dungeons and Dragons

Every Saturday during term time from 1pm to 3pm for ages 15 to 18 years old.

Join the Wayfarer's League on a new adventure at Godalming Library as our Dungeon Masters guide you through character creation and learning the joys of table top roleplaying. You will then venture forth with your newly made character, along with your party members on a grand adventure!

Dice, Character sheets and all materials are provided.

Cost: £10 per session, paid by the term. Spaces are limited so booking necessary.

Lego and Duplo club

Every Monday from 4pm until 5pm

Lego suitable for ages 6+ or Duplo available for younger children aged 2 to 5.

What next? Wednesdays

Every Wednesday from 2pm until 5pm

Local charity What Next? will be in Godalming Library offering eco advice, information and support. Come and chat to one of their volunteers, share your thoughts and concerns.

What Next? wardrobe warriors

Second Wednesday of every month from 3pm to 5pm

We will help you keep your favourite, comfy clothes going for longer. We can be company whilst you sew on a button or put up a hem. We will have needles, thread in a few colours, a sewing machine and some people who can sew. Bring your buttonless tops, your toeless socks and your holey frocks.

Godalming library Reading Friends poetry group

Godalming Library invites you to join our friendly and informal Poetry Group.

Thursday afternoons, once a month, from 2pm to 3pm. Upcoming dates and themes:

  • 17 July: Technology
  • 21 August: "Bad" poems or poems we don't like
  • 18 September: Food
  • 16 October: School
  • 13 November: Freedom and Captivity
  • 18 December: Free Choice

No specialist knowledge is required, just an interest in sharing our enjoyment of poetry. We will be reading some poetry and talking about the poems and poets we love.

You can express an interest in joining the Godalming library Reading Friends poetry group by completing our Reading friends participant application form.

French conversation group

Please note: there will be no French conversation group in July or August as they are taking a break over the summer but that they will return in September.

Meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 2pm to 3pm. All Welcome!

German conversation group

Meets on the last Friday of the month from 10.30am until 11.30am. All Welcome!

Digital support volunteer

Free, one to one, 45 minute computer help sessions.

Appointments are available on:

  • Mondays at 10am, 10.45am and 11.30am.
  • Fridays at 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
