Marvellous Makers

Caterham Valley are holding the following events in support of the Summer Reading Challenge, Marvellous Makers.

  • Junk modelling: Friday 26 July, from 11am to 12 noon. Cost: £1 per child (suitable age 5+), booking required.
  • Collage craft: Wednesday 26 July, from 11am to 12 noon. Cost: £1 per child (suitable age 5+), booking required.
  • Lego portraits: Wednesday 7 August, from 11am to 12 noon. Cost: £1 per child (suitable age 6+), booking required.
  • Stone Painting: Tuesday 13 August, from 2pm to 3pm. Cost: £2 per child (suitable age 5+), booking required.
  • Active Storytime for under 5's: Friday 16 August, from 11am to 12 noon. Free, no booking required.
  • Animated Flick books: Wednesday 21 August from:
    • 11am to 12 noon and
    • 2pm to 3pm
    • Cost: £1 per child per session (suitable 6+), booking required.
  • Face masks craft: Wednesday 28 August, from 11am to 12noon. Cost: £2 per child (suitable age 6+), booking required.
  • Active Storytime for under 5's: Thursday 5 September, from 11am to 12 noon. Free, no booking required.

Beyond the Bassline exhibition

from Tuesday 2 July to Wednesday 24 July

This exhibition shines a spotlight on different voices and perspectives to celebrate Black British music as a form of entertainment and vehicle for community, as well as a source of liberation, protest and education.

Stepping into carnivals, clubs and record shops across the country, Beyond the Bassline draws on different places that have cultivated creative expression and inspired a number of Black British music genres.

Caterham Valley will be holding the following events in support of the Exhibition.

Drumming Workshop at Caterham Valley Library

Saturday 27 July, from 2pm to 3pm.

West African Drum and Dance workshop with Kaira Kafo. Come and have some fun with this lively drumming workshop. Learn how to play the traditional West African djembe drum, try various rhythms and even learn some traditional dance.

Suitable for adults and children over 5. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Booking necessary. Tickets cost £6. Please purchase a ticket for each child and adult participating. A ticket is not needed if the adult is just accompanying the child but not wanting to participate themselves. One drum will be provided per ticket.

Followed by Stay & Play, from 11am to 12 noon. No booking required.

Other events

Sketch Club

Second Saturday of each month from 2pm until 4pm.

The event is free and inclusive to any level of ability or experience. The event will be focused towards adults, but older children are welcome.

Please bring your own materials to draw with.
