City and Guilds Functional Skills Maths Entry 3 to Level 1 (spring and summer term only)

Overview

If you are aged 19 or over on the 31 of August 2023, our Functional Skills Maths courses can help you to develop the practical skills in maths that you need to live, work and study. You will learn to apply maths skills in real life situations. The courses are available at Entry Level 3 and Level 1. If you have applied to study GCSE with us, and you do not already have a grade 9 to 4 (A* to C) we may recommend you study Functional Skills first. We run courses at our centres in: Guildford, Woking, Camberley, Sunbury and online via Zoom. You can study in the daytime or in the evening. All our courses last 2 hours and run once a week. You will work towards the City and Guilds Functional Skills maths qualification.

There are no tuition, registration, or examination fees to pay for this course if:

  • You are UK national and have lived in the UK continuously for three years.
  • You are a UK national and have lived in either the European Economic Area (EEA) only, or EEA and UK only for at least the last three years.
  • You are an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status (under the European Union (EU) settlement scheme) and have lived continuously in the EEA, Gibraltar, or the UK for at least three years.
  • You are a non-UK national with permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK continuously for at least three years.

Fees

There are no tuition, registration, or examination fees to pay for this course if you are a British or a European Union resident.

Attendance

You will be required to attend a minimum of 90% of your classes. Should your attendance fall below this, your place on the course may be at risk.

Course content

The course enables students to develop maths knowledge, skills and understanding of topics in areas such as number skills, area, perimeter, volume, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, proportion, and statistics.

Delivery method

The courses are taught in English by a tutor who is a subject specialist. You will be expected to complete weekly homework tasks which your tutor will give you feedback on. In addition to this, we recommend that learners studying Functional Skills maths develop learning skills and understanding outside the classroom through use of the Internet, Moodle and the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) test.

Progression

Functional Skills qualifications are stand-alone qualifications which will help you improve your career prospects. They will also maximise the opportunity for successful candidates to gain entry to a higher level Functional Skills course, or a GCSE, or an Apprenticeship programme in the future.

Additional information

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
