Celebrate Surrey Day on 11 May

A chance to appreciate our county

With so many pressures on our daily lives, it can feel good sometimes to just step back and celebrate what we have. And that's exactly what we're doing on Saturday 11 May – Surrey Day.

Wherever you look across our county, there is something to amuse or amaze. From theatres to sculpture parks, historic sites to mini festivals, there is so much to explore. And don't forget our beautiful countryside! With 70% of Surrey defined as green belt, and miles of river and canal to wander, it's easy to boost our physical and mental health by spending time in nature.

So why not see more of Surrey, on Surrey Day this year? Find out more below how you can get involved this year.

Seeing Surrey from the Sky

This year's theme is Surrey from the Sky, and the day will feature free events and open days at locations across the county, alongside full coverage on BBC Radio Surrey.

Here are just a few of the gems scattered across the county, some well-known and some hidden, that reflect this theme:

  • Birdworld, Farnham – meet our feathered friends up close at the UK's largest bird park, and support conservation projects for African Penguins and Yellow Crested Cockatoos, among others.
  • Brooklands Museum, Weybridge – explore the Aircraft Factory and take the Concorde Experience at this historic site celebrating British innovation in aviation (and motorsport).
  • Leith Hill, near Dorking – enjoy sweeping views to London and the Channel from the top of the tower, the highest point in south-east England – higher even than the Shard!
  • Surrey Space Centre at the University of Guildford – pioneering the development of small satellites for 45 years, and currently working on a smart fuel tank to be tested on the International Space Station.

Get involved in celebrating Surrey all year round, through Our Surrey Story and keep an eye out on our Facebook page where we will be sharing #SurreyFromTheSky videos for you to guess the location.
