It is true to say that small gestures of kindness often have long lasting, positive effects on people. As we move through the crisis of the pandemic there is a time to reflect on lessons learnt and, in some cases, the hidden silver linings of the pandemic that have given each and every one of us an opportunity re-evaluate our priorities and value one another.
At Surrey Adult Learning we can offer you first class tutors, who have a passion for learning and deliver excellent teaching. Art tutors Christina Rossman and Melanie Paice suggested collaborating on a project that would involve the skills of their learners for the benefit of the community.
Melanie said "We had noticed that it was going to be random acts of kindness day during the half term holiday and decided to embrace that idea and encourage our learners to produce work that could become a random act of kindness in itself. We decided upon the brief to create a postcard that could be sent to show someone they were thinking of them or to say thank you or to be left in a public place to brighten someone's day.
We encouraged learners to think about how little acts of kindness go a long way to making someone's day. Also, to think about how these small gestures make them feel themselves when they are the received and what impact do kind gestures have on community.
The postcards are on display at Esher Green Adult Learning centre and at Woking. Once the cards come down, they will be sent on by the maker in their act of kindness. I know that the postcards which have been received in Esher Green have brightened the days of the staff immensely!"
We commend Christina and Melanie for their ingenious idea and for spreading happiness!
