Care Experienced Preferred Language – Using words you’d like us to use

A young woman looking to the right with a empty speech bubble next to her.

We often hear feedback from care experienced children and young people that you don't always agree with the language that professionals use when working or writing about you so we'd like you to have your voice heard on this.

We are looking for your feedback about the words and terms used when professionals talk to you about being in care. We want to make sure that the language used is accessible and approved by you.

Complete our Care Experienced Preferred Language survey by the 12 September 2023 to have your voice heard.

Care Experienced Preferred Language survey

We are putting together a Preferred Language Document which will be shared with professionals working in Surrey County Council to give them guidance on which language you'd like them to use when speaking with care experienced children and young people, writing reports and sharing information.
