Strong for Longer - Active Stretch

Course intent

Strong for Longer are a collection of strengthening & balance activity courses at Surrey Adult Learning providing learners the opportunity to maintain the skills & knowledge to live in good health and protect their future health. Strong for Longer are aimed at older adults and adults looking to rehabilitate their muscle strength.

This course is a combination of stretching, aerobic exercise and resistance aimed to keep your muscles flexible, strong, and healthy.

What will we cover?

This course will use resistance bands, light weights, movements to music and your own bodyweight to build strength, prevent injury and boost overall fitness. We have purposely blended a few techniques into one course to provide you with the skills and knowledge to improve cardiovascular fitness and cognitive health.

Each lesson will last an hour and will include a warm-up, various movements to music to build flexibility, strength & balance and complete with a warm down.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is designed for those who feel confident with light-moderate physical activity (e.g., gardening or walking). This course includes exercises in seated and standing. There are options for lying positions, but the tutor will adapt all movements to suit you.

You need to complete a health check list before you start the course so that the tutor knows your current health needs and abilities. The course is taught in English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need to wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to reach up and bend down, and appropriate footwear (trainers, or similar shoes which hold the foot, provide cushioning, and have a good grip on the floor).

All equipment provided. You will need a bottle of drinking water. There are no extra costs.

What can I do when I finish the course?

You will be able to practise your new skills at home and fit them in to your daily routine.

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto our other physical activity courses.
