Windows PC Digital Skills & Confidence - Stage 2

Course intent

You will learn to become confident and more independent at using a computer and the Windows Operating System, increasing your digital skills and awareness of online safety.

How to Apply

There are three ways to apply on this course. You can:

  • complete the form on our website;
  • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
  • visit one of our centres.

We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

What will we cover?

• Personalise the Windows desktop, Start menu, Task Bar and Settings

  • Practise using File Explorer to find files, folders and then identify different storage options to backup data
  • Use Email to send and receive messages and then attach files
  • Create documents using text, photographs and online images
  • Use the internet to search for information and then analyse results
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for anyone who:

  • Has a new laptop or computer and needs help to use it
  • Wants to increase their computer knowledge and confidence.
  • Can use a computer and the internet safely
  • Can use email safely

If you answer no to the questions below, then this is the course for you.

  • Can you confidently find a file on your computer and attach it to an email?
  • Can you confidently add and delete an app to your start menu and task bar?
  • Do you understand copyright law when using images in documents?

To ensure you make good progress with your personal learning goals, the tutor will work with you to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Pen and paper for notetaking and a folder for keeping handouts organised.

What can I do when I finish the course?

You may like to progress onto another Surrey Adult learning course, such as:

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
