Windows PC Digital Skills & Confidence - Stage 6

Course intent

You will extend your knowledge of office programmes using Windows, essential for improving productivity in today’s administration roles. By using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, which is used in most work settings, you can upskill for improved employment options or be more productive within your personal administration. All skills covered are transferrable to other platforms.

All content is aligned with the national standards for essential digital skills.

    There are three ways to apply on this course. You can:

    • complete the form on our website;
    • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
    • visit one of our centres.

    We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

    What will we cover?

    You will use the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office or their equivalent to:

    • Review the purpose of each programme.
    • Create professional documents using advanced formatting.
    • Independently create more complex spreadsheets using functions and formulas.
    • Insert and format pictures/online images/charts into reports and presentations
    • Effective navigation of your Windows environment and the cloud.
    • Identify which Social Media platforms are best for a specific marketing campaign.
    • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

    For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for anyone with good computer skills, i.e. using a keyboard, mouse or laptop touch pad and can save files and folders with confidence.

    If you are completely new to computers, please look at our Computer Digital Skills & Confidence – Stages 1 - 3 courses first.

    If you can confidently answer yes to all the questions below, then this is the course for you.

    • Can you confidently find a file on your computer and attach it to an email?
    • Can you create a PDF?
    • Can you create a spreadsheet using basic formulas & conditional formatting?
    • Can you confidently insert a table into a document?

    To ensure you make good progress with your personal learning goals, the tutor will work with you to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

    As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    Pen and paper for notetaking and a folder for keeping handouts organised

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    You may like to progress onto another Surrey Adult learning course, such as:

    • Essential Digital Skills (EDSQ) Accredited courses and gain a qualification.
    • Microsoft – Word-processing – Word
    • Microsoft – Spreadsheets – Excel
    • Social Media – An Introduction
