Sewing for Home - How to Make Cushions Workshop - All Abilities [SSK]

Course intent

On this one-day workshop you will learn how to make cushions and to apply a choice of fastenings that are beautiful, functional and stylish. Enhance your home with fabrics that you love, creating items that will be totally unique. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

• Fillings and fabrics.

  • How to measure and cut your fabric
  • Sewing seams using a sewing machine
  • How to create different fastenings and edgings, depending on your ability.
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners & Improvers. Beginners will be shown the key skills needed to make a beautiful cushion and Improvers to create different more challenging fastenings and edgings for their cushions depending on their ability.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need a basic sewing kit consisting of:

  • fabric scissors and small scissors
  • pins and needles
  • tape measure
  • tailors chalk
  • a seam ripper
  • notebook and pen
  • your own fabric and matching threads.

A needs list will be sent out before the workshop giving advice about fabrics and where to buy them. If you have any queries, you can email the tutor at: adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk

What can I do when I finish the course?
