Cookery Workshop - Portuguese Baking

Course intent

Portuguese baking, famous for its buttery vanilla custard tart with flak puff pastry. Yum! This workshop will teach you to make the mouth-watering bake and more.

What will we cover?

This 5.5-hour workshop will introduce you to the basic recipes and techniques for making delicious homemade teatime breads and give you the confidence to experiment further with breadmaking in your own kitchen. You will concentrate on the techniques of preparing the dough and pastries for three bakes:

• Pastéis de Nata ~ Portuguese Custard Tarts
• Pao de Deus – Portuguese Bread
• Malassadas - Portuguese Doughnuts
• Chocolate Salami (not a bake/sweet treat)

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This workshop is suitable for those wanting to build onto their baking knowledge. It is suitable for all dietary requirements. You will be required to meet specific hygiene and safety requirements, including frequent handwashing, and cleaning your own workstation and equipment during the workshop. This workshop is taught in English

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will receive a workbook, informing you of the ingredients and equipment you will need to bring with you. This will also include aprons, oven-gloves, and tea-towels. It is important to wear clothes and footwear suitable for a busy, hot kitchen. Face coverings are optional. If you wish to wear latex/nitrile gloves, you will need to provide these yourself as the centre does not supply them.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING CONTAINERS TO TAKE YOUR BAKES HOME
