Greek Culture – An Introduction to Homer - The Great Ancient Poet

Course intent

Do you want to discover fascinating aspects of different cultures? This lecture is about the famous Greek myths through Homer’s epic poems of Odyssey and Iliad. This is one in a series of lectures about Greek culture.

What will we cover?

This course is an introduction to the two ancient epic poems attributed to Homer. We’ll examine definitions of heroism and the Trojan War and follow Odysseus’ journey.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This lecture is suitable for everyone. No prior knowledge is required, just an interest in the topic.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You are welcome to bring a pen and notebook for taking notes, but most important of all is your curiosity and enthusiasm!

What can I do when I finish the course?

We offer a range of lectures on Cultural Studies, as well as other Humanities subjects that may be of interest to further your knowledge.

Also, our Modern Greek language courses are a great next step, if you want to discover today’s Greece and gain a better understanding of the Greek culture.
