Watercolour - Larger Than Life Flower Painting Inspired By Georgia O'Keefe [SSK]

Course intent

You will learn how to plan and produce a watercolour painting of a larger than life flower, in the style of Georgia O’Keefe. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

Through a series of demonstrations followed by practical work, you will be shown how to:

• Draw out your composition in proportion.
• Plan your colour mixes
• watercolour techniques.
• How to add your colours in the right sequence
• Ways to add finishing touches to complete your painting.
• Using tools and equipment safely
• Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
• The importance of a clean and tidy studio

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is not for complete beginners - You will need to be already familiar with how to use watercolour paints. If you have completed at least one workshop in watercolour, or want to learn more techniques and explore different ways of using this media, then this is the course for you.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• Watercolour paints,

• brushes,
• palette
• water container
• kitchen roll or equivalent
• A3 Watercolour paper
• Notebook/sketchbook and pen/pencil
• Soft pencil (2B) to sketch out your composition.
• Rubber, sharpener
• Masking Fluid

  What can I do when I finish the course?

  Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL. Your tutor Helen Kelly offers Watercolour painting Improvers classes on a Friday in Guildford during term time.

The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers.
