Watercolour - Summer Meadow [SSK]

Course intent

You will learn how to plan and produce a beautiful watercolour painting of a poppy meadow, using vibrant colours.

What will we cover?

Through a series of demonstrations followed by practical work, you will be shown how to:

  • Draw out your composition in proportion.
  • Plan your colour mixes
  • watercolour techniques.
  • How to add your colours in the right sequence
  • Ways to add finishing touches to complete your painting.
  • Using tools and equipment safely
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
  • The importance of a clean and tidy studio

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

You will already be familiar with how to use watercolour paints.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• Watercolour paints,

  • brushes,
  • palette
  • A3 Watercolour paper
  • Notebook/sketchbook and pen/pencil
  • Soft pencil (2B) to sketch out your composition.
  • Rubber, pencil sharpener
  • Masking Fluid

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL.

The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers.
