Gardening All Year Round – Summer – All Abilities

Course intent

Are you keen to learn more about which jobs to do and when? This course is spread over the year to show you how to get the best out of your garden all year round. This 5-week part incorporates SUMMER - the time to make the most of your hard work and keep your garden blooming.

What will we cover?

We will break down the seasonal jobs that need to be done throughout the year to help you understand your plants.

• Understanding your garden
• Different soil types and how to improve its quality
• Pruning and planting when dormant
• Seed collection
• Lawn care including issues and how to overcome them
• Troubleshooting problems
• Safeguarding, Prevent & British Values

Working outside will be weather dependent!

Learners will keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Learners of all abilities are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary - just enthusiasm and a love of plants and gardens.

For adults aged 18 years or older.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• wear closed toe shoes

• bring an apron or wear old clothes
• a pen and notebook
• a pair of gloves
• old clothing for activities
• photos of your garden space and any problems you might what to discuss

What can I do when I finish the course?

Other related courses are available, covering a range of topics from seasonal specialities to wedding flowers and themed designs.

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto our longer courses or enhance your learning on our other Arts & Crafts courses.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
