Drawing - Pen Drawing in the Style of Van Gogh - All Abilities

Course intent

In this one-day workshop you will learn the techniques that Van Gogh used when he made drawings of landscapes using a bamboo pen and sepia ink. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environmen

What will we cover?

You will choose a resource for inspiration: this could be from a choice of images of his work or your own choice of image.

  • The range of pen marks used by Van Gogh
  • How to create tones and textures using ink and a bamboo pen.
  • Practising samples in the style of Van Gogh
  • Using a bamboo pen and ink in your own work referencing Van Gogh’s techniques.

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan.
