Calligraphy & Bookbinding – Making Books & Simple Folded Structures/Ephemera

Course intent

This workshop will cover making small, simple folded books (suitable for calligraphy, art, diaries etc) together with some fun folded paper structures to enclose messages, small gifts etc as well as making attractive ephemeral decorations. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment

What will we cover?

• We will look at a variety of books that fold, flip and turn, with some opening out into cascading pages.

  • You will make some simple folded structures, that are good for taking small gifts as well as making attractive hanging decorations.
  • If you are a calligrapher, there will be an opportunity to write in and on these with support from the tutor
  • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

All Abilities: This course would be ideal for calligraphers as well as artists, illustrators, people interested in Book Art and Artists’ Books as well as card makers and crafters. No previous knowledge is necessary to make the books and folded decorations, but if wanting to use calligraphy during the workshop, some skills and experience as a calligrapher will be required.
