Photography Workshop - The Art of Smartphone Photography - Beginners

Course intent

Photography is bound up in the history of technological innovations, from the invention of the Daguerreotype to the digital revolution. Each new technological breakthrough has shifted the way we see and represent the world photographically.

This workshop will is for those wishing to improve knowledge and experience in the use of the mobile and tablet devices’ functions, composition, lighting, and a sound general knowledge of photographic skills. At its heart, mobile photography is about fun. The joy of having a camera available at those moments you want to keep is what it’s all about.

What will we cover?

This workshop will enable you to start using smartphone more creatively and to think critically about photography. Gain confidence in using, controlling and manipulating smartphone’s cameras. Both technical skills and creating great photos will be covered in an understandable way, with a view to applying the skills learnt in your own environment. There will be opportunities for learners to participate in taking photographs outside of the center, weather permitting.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners, lifelong learners, travelers and explorers

For adults aged 19 years or older.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need to bring your mobile Smartphone/tablet fully charged. Any type of smartphone can be used. Some devices will have better and more advanced cameras than others, but this is not a downside for the course because photography is common for all.

You will need to complete some course documentation to help assess your progress.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can progress onto specific workshops and other courses with Surrey Adult Learning.
