Course intent
This one-day workshop will introduce those with basic watercolour skills and above to making watercolour paintings of seascapes. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment
What will we cover?
• How to draw out a simple composition
- Mixing watercolour using a limited palette to match sky, sea and shore colours
- Techniques to blend and overlay watercolours
- Step by step demonstrations
- A choice of images for inspiration
- Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.
There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Beginners (but not absolute beginners) and Improvers - This workshop is suitable for anyone who has some basic skills in drawing and watercolour painting.
For adults aged 18 years or older.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Please bring:
- Several sheets of A4 (or A3) watercolour paper 300gsm, NOT/textured
- 2B pencil
- Putty rubber
- Large, medium, and small round brush. Any other brushes you already have
- Watercolour paints
- Palette
- Masking Fluid
- Cling Film
- Wear old clothes or a protective apron
- OPTIONAL – an image you might like to paint – the tutor will have some images to share with you.
What can I do when I finish the course?
Your tutor Helen Kelly offers other watercolour and drawing workshops and classes throughout the year. You can also progress onto other Arts and Crafts courses or workshops
