Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

The course aims to introduce beginners to the subject and to extend the more experienced learners’ skills, guiding you all towards a more personal approach to sculpture making. A practical mind set and an enthusiasm for creating, experimenting and persevering are useful ingredients for those joining the class. Any learner with medical conditions or allergies should inform the tutor to check if there is any risk.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please wear clothes for messy work, bring examples of any previous work and a sketch pad & pencil.

Cost of some materials are included, others will need to be purchased including clay, plaster, resin, kiln firing costs etc. Most materials are covered by the course fee, but for larger or multiple pieces an additional fee may be payable, or materials purchased by the learner. These will be discussed with Tutor during the first session.

If you choose to work on a technique that requires a specialist face mask, you will be provided with one FFP3 mask at the beginning and you are expected to take this home and bring it back for all subsequent classes. Should you forget your mask, a replacement can be purchased from Reception.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners may wish to attend further sculpture courses with the possibility of exhibiting work; there is the opportunity to join art groups, societies or to develop further within the same class and to meet people with similar interests and make friends. Your tutor can give you advice about progression with external providers.
