Sculpture - All Abilities

Course intent

If you have an interest in sculpture or creating in other 3-dimensional arts such as pottery and are keen to develop your 3-dimensional skills, this mixed-ability course will give you the skills that you need to make your own sculptural works of art. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

You will learn:

  • How to model with clay
  • How to make an armature support from wire for clay sculpting
  • How to turn ideas from sketches or images into a finished sculpted piece
  • Proportion, measuring, enlarging and reducing.
  • Depending on time, progress and your level, you will develop carving skills
  • The tutor will give one-to-one support, and there will be regular group discussions on work in progress, and tutor demonstrations of techniques.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is designed for beginners introducing them to the art of sculpture, supporting those taking their first steps towards building 3 dimensional sculptural forms and also for those who already have some experience of sculpture and/or working with clay who would like to develop their skills further. Improvers may progress onto carving projects sooner than beginners.
