Drawing & Painting - Oil Painting - Beginners & Improvers

Course intent

On this course you will learn the skills and techniques of oil painting, building your confidence and giving the opportunity to try a variety of techniques and subject matter. You will be given practical information, group and individual tuition from our very experienced tutor

What will we cover?

You will learn the following:

  • Mixing colours, what surfaces and mixing mediums to use
  • How to ‘build up’ a painting
  • Step by step instructions & the opportunity to experiment
  • Good brushwork and how to create an effective composition.
  • Develop your creativity & improve through practice, tuition and discussion
  • Safeguarding, Prevent & British Values

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.
