Calligraphy Workshop - Hand Lettering Using a Pointed Pen - All Abilities

Course intent

This course will get you started with hand lettering. Hand lettering is growing in popularity and is everywhere at the moment. Have you wondered about picking up a pointed pen and just having a go? Well on this workshop we will be doing just that! Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment

What will we cover?

• explore italic letter formation

  • translating that into a monoline alphabet
  • using a pointed nib that allows the line to swell and create beautiful flourishes and decorative details.
  • experimenting with writing in colour and some design elements to create attractive place settings, notices, menus etc. suitable for everyday or special occasions
  • Safeguarding, Prevent & British Values

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
