Sewing - Hand Embroidery Workshop - Mindful Stitching

Course intent

On this one-day workshop we will explore not only the beauty of embroidery but the gentle, calming effects of the processes by repetition of movement and focus without too much thinking.

By working through some simple stitches, you will hopefully begin a lifelong love of embroidery and the benefits of this peaceful occupation. We will also discuss different options for design source and embroidery inspiration for future projects

You will learn with a RSN (Royal School of Needlework) trained professional embroiderer and RSN tutor who has recently won has won the Embroiders Guild, Beryl Dean Award for Teaching Excellence.

What will we cover?

• how to get started

  • preparation techniques for framing up fabric and separating threads
  • the most useful and most commonly used stitches to enable you to gain confidence in embroidery
  • explore the embroidery stitches in a relaxed and playful way
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan.
