Flower Arranging - Living Vases: Designs Without 'Oasis' Foam - All Abilities

Course intent

You will learn how to arrange flowers and foliage without using ‘Oasis’. You will explore how to design different living vases, screens and structures using flowers and fresh foliage using a range of techniques used in designing foam-free flower arrangements. What will we cover?

• Techniques used in designing foam-free flower arrangements

  • The manipulation of foliage leaves for creative designs.
  • Learn to construct a screen using biodegradable wire and moss.
  • Design living vases with different mechanics.
  • Learn flower names
  • Tips on how to look after flowers to make them last longer
  • Discover how to use colour, form and design
  • Understand how to use tools and equipment safely
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner on their Individual Learning Plan

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for beginners and improvers. No previous experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a love of flowers.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• flowers and foliage (to be advised)

  • scissors
  • bucket for flowers
  • plastic sheet or cloth to work on
  • Sharp knife, scissors or secateurs
  • notebook and pen.
  • You may wish to bring a camera to record your work.
  • closed toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an apron or wear old clothes.

A list of materials will be sent out prior to the start date as you will need to purchase or bring your own flowers, foliage and materials on the day.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Further short courses and weekly classes are available that cover a range of topics from seasonal specialities to wedding flowers and themed designs.
