Drawing & Painting - Working with Landscape - All Abilities

Course intent

.In this course, you will learn the knowledge and skills needed to develop and expand your range of techniques. According to your level, you will develop drawing, painting and design skills, gaining a deeper understanding of the range of techniques and processes that will allow personal expression of what you see. What will we cover?

• Working with landscape in the studio & if appropriate on location

  • Finding the right medium for a particular landscape.
  • Using measurement techniques
  • Describing form using line
  • How to use tone
  • Colour mixing and how to use colour theory in your work to convey season and atmosphere
  • Composition and how to design your image
  • Painting techniques
  • How to create a variety of scenes: woodlands, mountains etc.
  • Safeguarding & British Values

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

All abilities. Those with some experience of drawing would be helpful but not essential. Useful for those who need a refresher as well as those with little experience.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• a pad of A3 cartridge paper

  • soft grade of pencils (4B or 6B)
  • soft rubber and a graphite stick

Also bring whatever drawing & painting materials you may already have purchased including:

  • a basic set of acrylic or watercolour paints
  • brushes,
  • palette
  • tissues
  • water jar.

Materials and resources you will need through the course will be discussed at induction. You may also like to bring some of your own photographic images or sketches of landscapes.

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto other longer courses in other media, to join other art groups, societies or to develop further within the same class, meet new people and make friends.
