If you are already attending one of our English for Hongkongers BN(O) courses, please make sure that this course is at a different time to your English course.

Please only enrol yourself. Please do not enrol on behalf of anyone else.

If you need any further information, please email hkenglish@surreycc.gov.uk.

What will we cover?

You will learn about colour, composition, line, tone and texture through both drawing and acrylic painting and will be encouraged to take part in group discussions. With access to one-to-one support, the overall aim of the course is to help you to develop personal expression through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques.

This course will build on past learning, week by week, to develop new skills. Please attend every lesson, where possible, to maximise your progress.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

The course is both for beginners and for those with some prior experience.

Courses will be taught in English and for learners who self-assess at being Intermediate level or above.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please bring a set of pencils of various grades (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B…) a sketchbook of A4 cartridge paper, a soft rubber and sharpener for the first session and beyond. For further sessions - *A set of Acrylic paints (*For new starters the tutor can recommend/discuss which ones you will need during the first few sessions), paint brushes suitable for acrylics, a book of acrylic paper such as Daler Rowney System 3 or Windsor and Newton Galeria. Additional materials and resources you will need throughout the course will be discussed at induction.

Learners are expected to bring their own materials. Some less common or unusual materials may be brought in by the tutor.

Tutor recommendation/suggestion is for you to wear older type clothing or a protective garment as acrylic paint, if left to dry, is plastic based and waterproof so it does not easily come off clothing.

What can I do when I finish the course?

To progress on to other longer courses in acrylics or other media, to join other art groups, societies or to develop further within the same class, to meet people with similar interests and to make friends.
