Complete. The report and recommendations will be discussed by the Countryside Access Team Manager and local Councillors in due course and a determination reached.

Determination

The matter was considered by the Countryside Access Team Manager and local Councillors on 19 February 2024. They determined that an Order should be made to add Public Footpath 576 (Cranleigh) and Public Footpath 565 Alfold to the Definitive Map and Statement for Surrey.

Order making

A map modification order was made on 16 April 2024 and advertised on 26 April 2024. The Order is titled The Surrey County Council Footpath No.576 (Cranleigh) and Footpath No.565 (Alfold) Definitive Map Modification Order 2024.

Objections

Objections were received to the Order. The Orders, objections and all received evidence have been submitted to the Secretary of State for determination.

Public Inquiry

A Public Inquiry to hear the evidence and determine the matter was held on 17 March 2026 at Cranleigh Village Hall.

We are currently waiting for the decision from the Inspector.

Result

The Inspector appointed by the Planning Inspectorate has issued her decision, which will be published on the Planning Inspectorate website: Rights of way order information: Decisions and maps published in 2026 - GOV.UK.

The decision is to confirm the Order, with modifications relating to the recording of the width.  The confirmation was advertised on 22 May 2026. There is then be a period of 6 weeks in which an appeal to the High Court could be lodged.
