Course intent

Connect with your community, expand your horizons, use your skills in a productive way, strengthen your CV, contribute to a cause you care about - the list goes on as to why you should volunteer! Whether you’re new to volunteering or have some experience, let us help you identify your current reasons for taking this step, establish the skills you have which are useful for volunteering and discover the industries looking for volunteers now, including those who operate online. You will gain an insight into up-to-date volunteer rights and responsibilities and learn how to approach a volunteer agreement with an organisation to ensure their support to gain the best from the experience for you both.

You will be attending 1 x 120-minute session. This class will be real time online session via Zoom.

How to Apply

There are three ways to apply on this course. You can:

  • complete the form on our website;
  • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
  • visit one of our centres.

We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

What will we cover?

• Establish your reasons for volunteering and identify the skills you have and how these are useful to volunteering.

  • Discover which industries need volunteers now and how to apply.
  • Learn about the current rights and responsibilities as a volunteer and how to ensure support from organisations where you volunteer.
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for learners who have recently been made unemployed and would like guidance on how to volunteer.

his course will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom.

To fully participate in this course, you will need:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
  • microphone and webcam.

Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection, working microphone, and webcam. If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.

This is a live, interactive course and you will need to log on at the given time to access the course.

What can I do when I finish the course?

At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you can move on to next or direct you to the ‘Next steps’ section, on our web site.
