Refresh - Route into Self Employment (Online)

Course intent

Are you full of business ideas? Have you always liked the idea of being an entrepreneur? We’ll help you weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of starting your own business or being self-employed. You’ll be guided to recognise the skills and qualities for these career decisions and establish if starting your own business and self-employment really is the next move for you.

You will be attending 1 x 120-minute sessions. These classes will be real time online session via Zoom.

  • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
  • visit one of our centres.

We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

• Assess and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of starting a business and choosing self-employment as a career option.

  • Identify the specific skills and qualities necessary for succeeding as a self-employed individual.
  • Evaluate your personal skills and qualities to determine their compatibility with the demands of self-employment.
  • Make an informed decision regarding whether starting your own business or pursuing self-employment is the right path for you.
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

This course DOES NOT offer financial advice or involve writing a business plan.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for learners who have recently been made unemployed and who may be looking for a change in career direction.

This course will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom.

To fully participate in this course, you will need:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
  • microphone and webcam.

Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection, working microphone, and webcam. If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.

This is a live, interactive course and you will need to log on at the given time to access the course.
