Course intent

Have you recently been made unemployed and are now looking for work? Has your confidence with your career taken a bit of knock? This course will help you identify your transferrable skills, qualities and experience to get you back out there, and give support in updating your CV to attract potential employers in the current labour market. You’ll also use social media for job searching and understanding the local job market.

You will be attending 3 x 120-minute sessions. These classes will be real time online session via Zoom.

How to Apply

There are three ways to apply on this course. You can:

  • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
  • visit one of our centres.

We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

What will we cover?

During the course you will be covering the following topics:

  • Identifying your transferrable skills, qualities, and experience for today’s labour market
  • CV updating - CV layouts and formats, example CVs
  • An introduction to the National Careers Service
  • A taster into the hidden job market, using social media for job searching and local job market knowledge.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for learners who have recently been made unemployed and need support in recognising their skills and experiences, updating their CV, and searching for employment.

This course will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom.

To fully participate in this course, you will need:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
  • microphone and webcam.

Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection, working microphone, and webcam. If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.

This is a live, interactive course and you will need to log on at the given time to access the course.

What can I do when I finish the course?

At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you can move on to next or direct you to the ‘Next steps’ section, on our website.
