Family Learning - The Language Used in Relationship Education at Your Childs School (EAL parents)

What will I learn?

On this FREE online 2-hour workshop you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to discuss the language you and your child need to be familiar with to understand Relationship Education in primary schools. This workshop will introduce you to the English that you may hear at a presentation on Relationship and Health Education at your child’s school.

• Become familiar with the English used in Relationship Education in your child’s school.
• Learn key words to use when talking about the human body and how it changes as your child grows.
• Find out where to go for more information

Is this course for me?

If you are new to the UK or went to school in another country and are a parent/carer of a child aged 4-11, this workshop will help you develop your English language skills to understand what language teachers use in schools to talk about relationships and the human body with children.

Intent

You will develop your skills and knowledge in the special language used when talking about relationships and know where to find out more information. This will be positive for your family.

What do I need to do?

• Have my camera on

• Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
• A reliable internet connection
• A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
• A pen and paper
• Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
• Fill out `Tell us what you think` form

What could I do next?

At the end of this workshop, we will give you details of what you can move on to next, for example, you could attend one of our 5-week courses for parents who speak English as an additional language, volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning such as ESOL or Maths, join a college or get a job.
