Course intent

This life drawing course is suitable for all levels. Through Life drawing you will build and improve your confidence in your drawing skills more effectively than any other drawing practice, as it is an excellent foundation for all other drawing and painting.

What will we cover?

You will learn:

  • A range of beginners to advanced drawing techniques to use in life drawing, including line drawing, tonal studies, perspective and looking at anatomy.
  • How to use a range of materials to draw the figures beginning with charcoal and pencil, and progressing to coloured media if you choose.
  • Drawing skills through a range of varied tasks including scale, using basic measuring, proportion, negative space, composition, rhythm and gesture.
  • · Using tools and equipment safely · Become familiar with the construct of a traditional life drawing studio and gain confidence in this environment. · How to work in a safe, tidy and clean workshop · Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

    Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

    There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

    To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

    For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

    Your tutor can advise on other alternative materials in the first session

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    Learners can progress onto other Arts and Crafts courses with SAL or other providers.

    The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers
