Strong for Longer - Yoga

Course intent

Strong for Longer are a collection of strengthening & balance activity courses at Surrey Adult Learning providing learners the opportunity to maintain the skills & knowledge to live in good health and protect their future health. Strong for Longer are aimed at older adults and adults looking to rehabilitate their muscle strength.

Yoga helps build your wellbeing holistically, by using slow movements and poses, with deep breathing exercises, offering physical and mental health benefits. Hatha Yoga encompasses physical postures (asanas), swapping between active and passive poses, breath work and relaxation, to increase body awareness and improve postural alignment

What will we cover?

You will learn a range of yoga postures in standing, seated, and lying positions. You will also learn breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques. Your tutor will ensure you are able to work at the right level for you.

Yoga teaching is methodical and structured. Hatha Yoga involves moving into and holding postures. Your tutor will adapt each exercise to suit your own level of experience and ability. The tutor may include using equipment, such as blocks, or bolsters, to help you achieve better alignment. You will be able to practise the exercises at home and fit them in to your daily routine
