Introduction to Counselling Skills - Term 2

Course intent

Learn basic counselling skills and how to use them in a range of informal and professional settings. Counselling skills are highly transferable in all interpersonal contexts

What will we cover?

In this course, we will cover topics such as:

What counselling is, including working ethically and safely.

A three-stage model of counselling process and skills based on the three core theories: person centred, psychodynamic and CBT

Counselling skills and strategies, with an emphasis on CBT

How people change

Working with goals and core beliefs

Moods and mindfulness

Our experienced tutors will guide you through your learning with information, group discussion, and the opportunity to practice skills in pairs and small groups

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for anyone who is interested in learning about counselling, using it in personal relationships and professional roles, and as a first step towards further formal training.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

It would be useful to bring a notepad and pen for making notes during lessons

What can I do when I finish the course?

By the end of the course, you will have developed your knowledge and built the confidence to apply your new skills in your own life, whether in a work or personal environment.

The course is good preparation for formal studies in counselling, such as our Level 1 course.

We also offer a wide range of courses in other Humanities subjects that may be of interest to further your knowledge.
