Drawing & Painting - Life Drawing Portrait (Clothed Model for 2 weeks) - All Abilities

Course intent

The intent of this course is to build confidence by introducing you to life drawing as you explore different ways of portraying the human form. Working from images to focus on specific areas of the human body with a (clothed) life model for two weeks of this 10-week course. There will be opportunities to express yourself creatively using different mediums.

What will we cover?

· Subjects covered during the course will include dealing with the basic principles of life drawing, using measuring techniques, plotting negative spaces and learning composition · Learners will be encouraged to use a variety of materials: charcoal, pastel, ink, etc. · To see simplified geometric forms within the body · To understand the body shape and its proportions · To learn quick drawing techniques · Project specific images will be provided by the tutor and there be use of a life model for two weeks of the course.

Where this course consists of more than one session you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

The course is for all abilities. If learners have not drawn the human figure before then there is no need to worry as full support is given throughout the entire course by this experienced tutor.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• Drawing paper - size A1/A2 and an A1/A2 flip chart of cheap paper is needed for quick sketches

  • Charcoal of mixed sizes,
  • pencils,
  • putty rubber/eraser,
  • bulldog clips or masking tape for the board,
  • tissue or kitchen towels.

Other items learners may wish to use later in the course and could include paints and pastels, although these are optional and can be discussed during the class.

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto further life drawing, drawing, painting, and sculpture and illustration classes or if you wish to put a portfolio together for entrance to an art college then this is a distinct advantage. Ask the tutor for his upcoming Saturday workshops
