Course intent

Want to draw and / or paint? This is an ideal place to start your journey. You will gain confidence and skills in drawing and then on to watercolour painting, where you will learn techniques to help develop your skills and imagination through a mixture of practice, discussion and tutor demonstrations

What will we cover?

  • The overall aim is to help you discover and develop your abilities through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques

Where this course consists of more than one session you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners, but learners with a little experience of drawing and painting are welcome as well as those who have gained some additional experience through our one-day workshops.

For adults aged 18 years or older.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please bring to the first session: a pen for writing, a ruler and the following drawing equipment: A4 cartridge paper (tutor recommends Daler Rowney) and pencils: 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B (tutor recommends Staedtler Mars Lumograph). Also bring a sharpener or craft knife and a plastic rubber. Other items will be required later including watercolour paint and brushes – the tutor will discuss painting equipment once you have started the course. If you have any queries before the course starts, please email the tutor on adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk to discuss materials

Sketchbook / notebook & pen.

You will need to complete some course documentation to help assess your progress.

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto further Arts & Crafts courses. Learners may wish to progress on a more advanced course or one covering different painting materials or techniques in more depth

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
