Introduction to Lipreading

Course intent

Come and learn about lipreading and gather information relevant to hearing loss.

The intent of this course is to enable you to develop confidence and skills to communicate effectively both socially and at work. This is a follow on from term 2, however new learners are welcome.

What will we cover?

You will learn about trickier lip shapes and tactics to help you manage difficult listening situations.

Practise and develop your lipreading skills and strategies for face to face communication.

Find out about equipment, organisations, and research relevant to hearing loss.

Share experiences of hearing loss in a supportive environment.

You will make the most progress if you attend every lesson and complete any self-directed study recommended by your tutor.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is designed to support learners who are experiencing hearing loss and have attended term 1 & 2..

You will need to complete some course documentation to help assess your progress.

Suitable for mixed abilities, beginners welcome. No previous knowledge is required. Start at any time of year.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need to bring a pen and folder for handouts.

What can I do when I finish the course?

The learner will have opportunities during the term to discuss further learning with the tutor and curriculum team.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
