Walking for Health groups

A number of organised health walks take place near to where you live. Walking can provide lots of health benefits:

  • walking can make you feel good
  • give you more energy
  • reduce stress
  • help you sleep better
  • keep your heart healthy
  • reduce blood pressure
  • help you to manage your weight

Walking is the perfect activity for health as almost everyone can do it, you can do it anywhere and anytime and it's free! You can start slowly and building up gently, and it's a chance to make new friends.

Many health walks groups exist across Surrey, so you're sure to find a walk near you. There are also a number of Nordic Walking groups available. If there's nothing listed below near to where you live, try looking at the national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks website.

Surrey Heath Walking for Health

A variety of walks in Frimley, Windlesham, Lightwater and Chobham, led by our team of park rangers and volunteers. Further information:

Walking for Health, Alice Holt Forest, Farnham

Every Tuesday from September to end of March, 1-hour morning walks at 10am from the Café on the Green.

Longer walks from April to August, Tuesdays at 6.30pm for 1.5 hours. Under 16s to be accompanied.

Mole Valley Walk for Health

Walks of between 30 and 90 minutes held most days of the week in the Leatherhead and Dorking area. See website for details.

Waverley Health Walks

Weekly free walks by trained leaders across Waverley borough at different times. Details:

East Surrey Walking for Health

Free health walks. Every day except Saturday. Led by trained volunteer walk leaders in various, mainly rural locations. Walks range from 30 to 90 minutes. No need to book, just turn up 10 minutes before start time to register.

Elmbridge Health Walks and Cycle Rides

Guided walks from easy to Nordic walking and cycle rides led by trained volunteers on most days of the year. Information from Fiona Paterson, Health Development Officer on:

Epsom and Ewell Health Walks

Volunteer-led weekly 1-hour walks of up to 3 miles held every Wednesday and Sunday at 10am. 30-minute walks on Mondays at 10am (particularly suited to those recovering from illness). All walks held at different locations through parks and countryside in the Epsom area. Further information from:

Sutton Befrienders Social Walking Group
