About the team

The Supporting Independence Team sits within Mental Health Services. We are a small team who focus on completing reviews of people's needs and how they are met in line with the Care Act 2014. The team works on a project basis, has excellent outcomes and we are in the process of developing this team further.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be the operational lead and support the progression of the Supporting Independence Team. In your new role you will lead on managing referrals and discussion of workflow both in and out of the team. You will be actively involved with decision making with Senior Management around the areas of focus for the reviews as well as managing a small staff team of qualified and unqualified staff. As such, you will need to bring a wealth of experience and expert guidance in complex situations, completing assessments and providing quality supervision to the small team.

Due to the size of the team there is also an expectation of ongoing, active direct casework alongside the leadership aspect. You will apply an extensive knowledge of Mental Health practice in a social care setting, theory and legislation to enhance yours and the practice of others. You will implement the Council's procedures and policies whilst promoting innovative and creative thinking to meet people's needs and introduce new ways of working from recognised sites of excellence.

Shortlisting criteria

You must have significant post qualification experience and be able to demonstrate good understanding of the mental health and recovery agenda. A key component of the role is developing staff practice and therefore applicants must be able demonstrate evidence of providing effective professional supervision to less experienced colleagues within a social care setting.

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Professional social work or occupational therapy qualification, completion of any post qualification practice or training requirements and current professional registration with your relevant registration authority
  • Experience and understanding of working within mental health services
  • Some leadership and supervision experience in a social care setting
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislations, assessments, preparation of care plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes
