Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for beginners to portraiture but is also suitable for people who need a refresher because they have forgotten the basics or who want to refine their drawing skills by learning a new drawing subject matter.
For adults aged 18 years or older.
You will need to complete some course documentation for assessment and evaluation.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- pencils (pencils set including for example: HB, 2B, 3B, 4B, 6B, 8B ... Derwent make a good set of 6 pencils which includes most of these and additionally a 2H, something like that would be fine or you can get bigger sets)
- Graphite pencil (a woodless graphite pencil, 2B - Faber Castell is a good make- useful for shading)
- eraser
- sharpener
- Drawing/sketch book with cartridge paper, I use Windsor and Newton as it is good quality paper but there are other good makes.
- optional- perhaps photographs or similar of someone facing forward who you would like to draw, though there will be several images provided by the tutor.
If you have any queries, please email the tutor at adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk
What can I do when I finish the course?
Your tutor Amanda teaches drawing and painting at Guildford centre on a Monday morning and her Monday afternoon course is specifically a portrait drawing course.
She also teaches an acrylic painting course on Friday morning at Guildford centre and at Farnham centre on a Thursday morning and afternoon. If you would like to learn to draw from scratch, you could also explore our longer Drawing - Stage 1 classes.
