Course intent
Unleash your creativity and explore the timeless beauty of stained glass through the copper foil technique. This hands-on course is perfect for beginners and those with some experience who want to refine their skills. You will start with simple, single-panel creations and gradually advance to crafting stunning 3D pieces such as terrariums or lanterns.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- Material Knowledge: How to work with different types of glass and hand-cut glass with precision.
- Design Techniques: To generate your own designs – creating a cartoon using your knowledge of glass cutting principles.
- Production Process: Techniques for assembling glass panels using the copper foil method. How to build in 3D using copper foil for soldering and panel assembly.
- Craftsmanship: Refine your attention to detail and elevate the quality of your work.
- Studio Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 1 – This stage is for learners who are new to their chosen subject area. With the focus on introducing individuals to basic materials, tools, and techniques, and to inspire confidence in creative expression.
Please note: this course is not suitable for pregnant or lactating mothers
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- A sketchbook and pen
- An apron and closed toe shoes

What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto Creative Glass – Stage 2, Glass workshops or further Arts & Crafts courses at SAL.
