Course intent
Upon completing Stage 2, this course will further develop your sculpting skills, providing you with advanced techniques to create sculptures with confidence. You will work in a supportive environment, benefiting from one-to-one guidance and participating in group discussions. The tutor will offer demonstrations and provide plenty of practice opportunities to help you refine your craft and build greater confidence in your sculpting abilities.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- Material Knowledge: Master your understanding of sculptural materials by gaining hands-on experience. You will focus on advanced techniques for shaping and refining sculptures, building an intermediate-level knowledge of both traditional and modern materials.
- Design Techniques: Plan and design sculptures by turning your sketches and ideas into three-dimensional works of art. Using life model sketches as a foundation, you’ll refine your concepts into well-structured sculptures, gaining valuable skills in design, planning, and execution.
- Life Model: Create sculptures by working from a life model, focusing on accurately capturing the human form and proportions. This process will further enhance your ability to create realistic and expressive sculptures, improving your understanding of anatomy, movement, and three-dimensional representation.
- Production Process: Explore the advanced production process of sculpture, from concept to completion. Build wire armatures for larger pieces and master casting and moulding with plaster and silicone rubber to create replicas and capture fine details.
- Craftsmanship: Strengthen your ability to measure and maintain proper proportions for balanced, accurate sculptures. Focus on precision and attention to detail to create fine, visually appealing works that are also structurally sound, ensuring proper balance and stability.
- Studio Practice: Gain hands-on experience in a studio environment, learning best practices for maintaining your workspace, tools, and materials. Practice the safe use of sculpting tools while keeping your work area organized and efficient for productive sessions.
