Creative Writing - Stage 2

Course intent

This inspiring course is ideal for learners who have completed Stage 1 and are ready to take the next step in their creative writing journey. The course is designed to enhance your creative writing skills and boost your confidence, whether you are interested in writing short stories, novels, or other creative forms. You will be encouraged to explore your creativity and let your imagination run wild.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • Creative Writing: Develop a range of writing to discover which forms resonate.
  • Idea Development: How to brainstorm and cultivate your creative thoughts into compelling stories, well-structured stories.
  • Character Creation: Understand the key elements of building authentic, relatable characters that will engage your readers.
  • Plot structure: Master the essential techniques of crafting an engaging and well-paced plot, ensuring your story captures attention.
  • Constructive discussion: Gain valuable skills in giving and receiving feedback in a positive and supportive way, helping you grow as a writer.
  • Writing Assignments: Complete tasks, such as writing a few hundred words from a prompt, to help refine your writing and encourage regular practice.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.

To take this course, you need to be working at Level 2, which means a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 (previously Grade C) or Functional Skills Level 2. If you're unsure about your level of English or have any concerns, please feel free to reach out via email.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring:

  • A notebook and pen

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to enrol onto further Creative Writing Workshops or Arts & Crafts courses at SAL.
