Watercolour Painting - Including Pen & Ink - Stage 2

Course intent

You will learn to develop your painting the skills, gaining a deeper understanding of the processes whilst developing personal expression in your watercolour painting.

  • Design Techniques: Using different brushes & dip pens
  • Material Knowledge: The contextual use of materials & tools
  • Craftsmanship: Working with light and tone creating texture, pattern & depth
  • Production Process: Research other artists techniques & style
  • Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring:

  • Paper: Watercolour paper - Cold Press300 gsm or similar, A4 or A3 size.
  • Cartridge Paper A4 size
  • Brushes: Synthetic or synthetic/hair mixtures, Round: 10/12 & 14 (Recommend Rosemary & Co Designer Size 14 SER 344)
  • Paints: Artist’s Quality or Student watercolours in tubes or pans; (Artist’s Colours if you can afford them). Most are usually contained in a beginner’s set or can be bought separately
  • Large Watercolour palette for mixing paint
  • HB, B pencils
  • Fine Liner Pens/ Dipping pen, nib and ink.
  • Tissues and/or cotton rags
  • Small notebook or sketchbook/ journal (suggested A4/ A5).

Materials and resources you will need through the course will be discussed in your first session.
