Life drawing and Printmaking - The Figure and Monoprint Workshop [SSK]

Course intent

Join in for a dynamic session of printmaking and life drawing. Learn how to draw from a life model and how to Mono Print - an easy, direct and immediate way to turn a live drawing into a surprising and even mysterious print. Using paint and ink on plates, you will explore mark-making and abstraction with experimental approaches to expressive works inspired by the human figure. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

• Mono-printing techniques

  • How to create tone to describe volume and add contrast
  • Using line to describe form, shape and volume
  • Mark-making to describe texture
  • Abstraction
  • Composition
  • How to create expressive images of the human figure

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This is a mixed ability class, so all are welcome.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    · Pencil & rubber & sharpener

  • · Willow charcoal · A4 cartridge paper 140gsm · A3 newsprint paper (4 sheets) · A3 cartridge paper 140gsm (at least 10 sheets) · Some white and black or brown acrylic paint (feel free to bring some colours too) · Assorted brushes · A printing plate- A sheet of A4 or larger shiny surfaced piece of acrylic/ plastic or a gelli plate if you have (the tutor will provide 10 gelli plates on the day for you to try) , · Printing Ink if you have it · A Roller /Brayer if you have · Biro · An A3 portfolio or folder and some extra newsprint sheets to carefully store prints that might still be wet, before taking them home · Some kitchen roll or old rags

    Please come prepared to get a little messy by wearing old / dark clothes or apron

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL. Your tutor, Camila, teaches evening life drawing classes in Woking during term time.

    The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers.
