Course intent
Work outside (Plein-air) and capture the atmosphere and light of your local landscape in your painting. Learn about colour mixing, composition and how to capture light in your painting. You will learn the key skills of acrylic landscape painting whilst working from direct observation of nature. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

- How to paint a cloud using a dry brush technique
- How to paint a sky using a sponge

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Beginners (but not complete beginners) who have a basic understanding of drawing and Improvers.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
· Pencil
· rubber
· Pencil sharpener
· A4 sketchbook
· Acrylic paints (should have plenty of white, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue, burnt or raw umber) any other colours are a bonus
· Assorted brushes (small to medium)
· 1 A4 and 1 A3 painting surface (canvas board, mixed media board, MDF, even cardboard)
· Paper towels /rags
· Waterpot and bottle of water to replenish
· Palette
· Palette knife if you have to mix paint, but not necessary.
· Something to sit on
· Packed lunch
· Drink
· Suitable clothes for painting outside and keeping warm or cool enough
· Sunscreen / hat if necessary
· Glasses if you wear them
What can I do when I finish the course?
Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL. Your tutor, Camila, is also offering a Painting and Bookbinding - Colour & Concertina Artist Book Workshop on Tuesday 16th July, a Life Drawing and Monoprint workshop on Wednesday 17th July in Guildford and teaches a term time life drawing evening class in Woking. Camila will be offering further life drawing Saturday workshops in Guildford in the Autumn term.
The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers.
