Dance is a great way to build your strength and flexibility and have fun whilst moving more.
Choose from Ballroom and Latin, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Salsa or Middle Eastern dance. Learn set routines and movements before bringing them all together to music. Tone your muscles and build up core strength whilst working on your sense of rhythm and memory with a variety of steps, sequences and patterns.
Our courses run over a period of weeks for a term. We have three terms in the year from September to July plus short courses at the start of summer.
All learners must complete a learner health information checklist and submit it before the first class.
Enrolments open each term in March, July and November. If courses have already started you may still be able to join so please contact us.

Course levels and information
We run weekly beginners, improvers, and mixed abilities courses. We also run some one hour taster sessions.
- Beginners will learn basic basic dance moves, steps, sequences and combinations. This will lead to learning a choreographed routine.
- Improvers will enhance performance skills.
Please wear appropriate shoes and comfortable, suitable clothing which allows a full range of movement. We have a water fountain located by reception so we recommend you bring a water bottle.
Ballroom and Latin
Learn to recognise the musical rhythm and structure of the dances and how to dance socially with your partner.
On this course you will practice social foxtrot, quickstep, waltz, rumba, and cha cha cha. Even though you will be dancing socially with a partner, please do not feel you need to enrol as a partnership. You will need to wear heeled or flat shoes that hold the foot. Preferably with straps, not flip flops, pumps, or trainers.
Jazz dance
Get your jazz hands at the ready! Jazz dance is fantastic for increasing strength, flexibility, coordination and endurance.
We run weekly courses where we will cover basic jazz steps, terminology, sequences and combinations. This will then lead to learning a choreographed dance routine. This will include learning to do jazz walks, runs, and basic jazz turns and leaps.

Tap dance
Tap dance is fun, noisy fitness that gets the heart rate up and is a great way to stay in shape. Learn routines whilst improving your balance. Tap shoes will be essential and should be brought to every lesson.
Middle Eastern dance
Middle Eastern dance is a fun way to tone your muscles and build up core strength. Develop your movement skills and you'll soon be shimmying to Arabic beats and wiggling your way to fitness!
Build your way up to a choreographed dance routine, or more freestyle interpretations. You may also learn to dance with a prop. if you wish to wear a hip scarf please do!

Ballet dance
Ballet is a great way to stay supple. It helps builds strength and improves balance.
You will practice your ballet steps, moves and travelling sequences using the barre and floor space. Bare feet are an option for this course, but for your safety ballet shoes are recommended.
Salsa dance
Salsa is an exhilarating dance that engages your entire body!
This class blends traditional dances such as Rumba, Chacha, Chango, Abakua, Son, Contemporary, and Orisha into a powerful and dynamic dance style. Feel the energy immediately as the rhythms pull you off the edge of your seat.
Fees and discounts
We have many discounts and fee support options. These include money off your first course if you are a library member, Surrey Heritage user, or over 66. There are no additional costs for this course, unless you want to invest in shoes.
